Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal information RandRate collects, why we collect it, who it may be shared with, how long we keep it, and the rights you have in relation to it.
This policy applies to the RandRate website and the comparison service offered through it. It is written to align with the principles of the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).
1. Who we are
RandRate operates a fixed-rate comparison service for South African users. We provide general information to help people explore and compare fixed-rate investment options. We are not a bank, product provider or financial adviser.
Full registered entity details for the responsible party will be published on this page once finalised.
2. Information we collect
When you use the comparison service, we collect:
- Details you give us: your full name, email address and mobile number, together with the preferences you select in the comparison — your investment amount range, preferred term and what matters most to you.
- Your consent record: the fact that you consented to be contacted, and when.
- Technical and source information: the page you arrived on, the full web address used, the referring website, your browser and device information, your IP address, and approximate location information such as country, region, city and time zone where this is available to us.
- Campaign information: marketing parameters attached to the link you clicked (for example campaign, source and medium values, and advertising click identifiers from platforms such as Meta and Google), which allow us to understand which campaigns lead to enquiries.
We do not ask for identity numbers, bank account details, tax numbers or other sensitive financial information through this website, and you should not send such information to us through it.
3. Why we collect it
- To prepare and respond to your comparison request.
- To contact you, where you have consented, about fixed-rate options relevant to the preferences you provided.
- To keep a record of the consent you provided and of your enquiry.
- To measure and improve our marketing and the website, including understanding which campaigns and pages lead to enquiries.
- To detect and prevent misuse of the website, and to meet legal obligations.
We rely primarily on your consent for contacting you, and on our legitimate interests in operating, securing and improving the service for the remainder.
4. Who your information may be shared with
Where you have submitted a comparison request, your details and stated preferences may be shared with relevant partners, providers or specialists for the purpose of responding to that request and discussing fixed-rate options with you.
We also use service providers who process information on our behalf — for example hosting, database, email and customer-relationship providers — under obligations of confidentiality and security. Some of these providers may process information outside South Africa; where that happens we take reasonable steps to ensure a comparable level of protection.
We may disclose information where required by law, or to protect our rights or the safety of others. We do not sell your personal information.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and similar storage in your browser to keep the site working correctly and to remember where your visit originated so that enquiries can be attributed to the correct campaign. Advertising platforms may also set cookies used for measurement and advertising.
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how parts of the website work.
6. How long we keep it
We keep enquiry information for as long as needed for the purposes described above and to meet record-keeping and legal requirements, after which it is deleted or anonymised.
7. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against loss, unauthorised access and misuse. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you may:
- ask what personal information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct or update information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- ask us to delete information we no longer have a lawful basis or need to keep;
- withdraw your consent to being contacted, at any time;
- object to processing in the circumstances allowed by law; and
- lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa if you believe your information has been handled unlawfully.
Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that already took place lawfully before the withdrawal.
9. Children's information
The comparison service is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information of children through this website.
10. How to contact us
Our published contact address for privacy requests, including our Information Officer's details, will appear here once finalised. See our contact page for available channels in the meantime.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The version published on this page is the one that applies.
